What We Do
The first step is inner healing. Many times when a person has been abused, rejected, wounded, or hurt in some way, there is an emotional wound that needs to be healed. These wounds are like an infection and continue to hurt long after the wound has been inflicted. Demons will use these wounds and weaknesses against the person, as leverage to hold them in bondage and get them to re-open doors so that they can re-enter. Inner healing is a vital step in the overall restoration process that needs to take place in the lives of many who are seeking deliverance. If inner healing is required in a person’s life, no amount of deliverance seems to be effective until the wounds are healed.
Removing Legal Rights
Second, we must remove legal rights. Legal rights are things that give demons permission to enter and remain in our lives. They are the unconfessed sins that we have not dealt with through confession. Before demons can be cast out, it is important to address and remove these legal rights. We use the Steps to Victory inventory to help identify and remove the most common legal rights. Failing to remove legal rights can nullify lasting freedom. Legal rights are like garbage in our garage. It attracts the rats (demons). We can shoot the rats but until we remove the garbage we cannot expect to be totally free.
Tearing Down Strongholds
Third is to tear down strongholds. Strongholds are incorrect thinking patterns that people develop over time, and are often set up and nurtured by demons through lies and deception. Demons thrive on strongholds, and use them to hang around a person and torment them. A stronghold is the belief or emotion that is the symptom of demonization. Freedom can only be attained by removing these thought patterns.
Cast Out Demons
Finally, we cast out the demons. This requires two basic elements: knowledge of your authority in Christ Jesus over the powers of the enemy, and faith in that authority. Demons are cast out with a simple spoken command. If inner healing is complete and strongholds are removed, demons usually leave with very little fuss. It is not necessary to have a loud or physical confrontation to remove demonic spirits once the first three processes are effectively completed.
